Samsung Reinvents The Smartphone With The Galaxy Z Fold3 And Galaxy Z Flip3 – British GQ

Where they differ, though, is in size. The Z Flip3 is more compact, and more portable, than the Z Fold3. The Z Fold3, meanwhile, features a more expansive screen and folds into an elongated rectangle like a more traditional smartphone. When unfolded, however, it resembles a tablet, offering the prerequisite larger display a user would expect.

Samsung themselves say they aim to maximise self-expression and freedom through technology, and both phones put creative potential front and centre. Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 is something called “Flex mode”, a setting that lets the user open the phone halfway (ie, at 90 degrees), prop it up with the camera facing forward without fear that the phone will fall over, and put the camera into hands-free mode, letting it take control of itself. You can even take hands-free selfies in Flex mode with a literal flash of the palm of your hand – wave, and the camera takes the shot. In short, you can set up a sort of impromptu, automatic photography set while you’re on the go. It’s self-reliant, easy to use and will improve your selfie game by about a billion per cent. That’s never not a good thing

As an extra expressive touch, the Z Fold3 is compatible with the S Pen[3]: a seamless way to take notes, send messages and communicate your creativity in any way you see fit. In light of the releases, Samsung says, “We designed the new Galaxy Z Series to address consumers’ needs in every moment – capturing, communicating, sharing and expressing.” It’s a holistic vision for a pair of smartphones that are as optimised for business and meetings as they are for self-expression (Google Duo[4], for example, is optimised for the Z Series, meaning video chats are seamless and hands-free: the app has been adapted so that in Flex Mode, the video appears in the top half of the screen and the controls in the bottom half). There’s no sharper way to express your creativity, to share memories with loved ones or to stay connected. Even the futurists never saw this one coming.
